The VolunTourism Concept
In the modern era, VolunTourism - the combination of volunteer service and travel/tourism - traces its roots to the Presidency of John F. Kennedy and the founding of the Peace Corps. In the subsequent four decades, student travelers shifted from what was originally just studying abroad to incorporating service into the learning experience. Likewise academics and educators have followed a similar track.

In the late 1980's, Eco-tourists began incorporating service into their green experiences and the rest is VolunTourism history.
